“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12
There are times in life when people hurt us and when we hurt ourselves by our decisions. During these times when we feel betrayed or angry it helps to remember to have compassion. We need to have compassion on the person who hurt us and we need to have compassion on ourselves. So often I cannot get to this place on my own and I need to pray for everyone involved and for God to soften my heart and to help me forgive.
As much as we try to control our lives and keep ourselves from hurt, it will inevitably happen. It is good to remember we are not always at fault for being involved with the wrong people or getting ourselves into unfortunate situations – sometimes life just happens. No person can boast that they have never hurt another person and that includes you. Whether we are aware of it or not, our words and actions bring pain to others and they are kind enough to overlook it. Remember to do the same and give your friends and family the benefit of the doubt.
